My physical therapist had just beat me up early on a Friday morning – clavicle, rotator cuff, chronic neck lock, deeply rooted, long story. As a peace offering I gave him a corked bottle of Rauch from Three Musketiers in Quebec -- malty, mellow, smoky – “Aw stop it,” he said, “I’m not supposed to accept anything.” “It’s just medicinal lubrication,” I said.
The last column on bar etiquette seems to have struck a chord among
readers; some wrote and urged me to explore the topic further. These letters
came from both servers and customers, and they brought up some good points.
Two hours train ride east from Paris by Thalys lies the sleepy burg of
Strasbourg, home of the European Parliament and staging area for Mondial de la
Biere Strasbourg-Europe. This was the first year of the festival in France and
I was present and accounted for.
It is easy to forget, in the not to distant past craft beer drinkers
eagerly awaited the winter season for beers that were bigger and bolder. The
pioneers of the early craft brew movement in the U.S. laid the groundwork with
their winter seasonals for the year round big beer explosion we are
experiencing today.
